Jenna L. Kashou...

…is a writer and journalist specializing in lifestyle features for print and web. Kashou also provides grantwriting and copywriting services, and worked in nonprofit management for over a decade. Find her published work in Milwaukee Magazine, MKE Lifestyle Magazine, The Business Journal, Edible Milwaukee, Austin Home and more. She was chosen as the fifth writer in residence at the historic Pfister Hotel where she wrote about guests and events, unearthing over 50 compelling stories. She was also selected as the first “MAC Maker,” a creative residency at the Milwaukee Athletic Club.

Kashou is the author of the second edition of the book 100 Things to Do in Milwaukee Before You Die (2019) and Milwaukee Scavenger (2022) both from Reedy Press.

A Milwaukee native, Kashou has lived abroad and visited far-flung locales like Greece, Portugal, Spain, Brazil and Argentina. She has always had an enormous sense of pride for her hometown and for many years, kept up on the hottest spots for Milwaukee Magazine as her alter ego, Girl About Town (before having kids).

Having a brief identity-loss crisis after becoming a mother, Kashou has now realized that motherhood has made her a better writer by giving more depth and meaning to her life experiences. (New moms: read her honest portrayal of it all here.) It also gave her a renewed focus on wellness and the mind-body connection.

On a personal note, she also enjoys the heroic sense of accomplishments reorganizing her book self, once competed in a theatrical writing competition using typewriters, and has a penchant for all things chewy, especially licorice, dates and Swedish fish. She is a proud steward of a Little Free Library, and is usually reading at least two books at a time.
