Top 10 of 2020

Enough of those “New Year, New You” posts. I am all for slow, simple, steady changes rolling into this new decade – maybe because I am nipping at the heels of 40. Being present and listening to the sound of my breath shouldn’t be the luxury that it is now, so despite the intense demands of two toddlers, I am going to try my damndest to slow down a bit. Let’s not call these resolutions, rather guidelines or goals for 2020.

1. Practice yoga every day - even if it’s two minutes.

2. Sit down to enjoy at least one meal a day.

3. Come to terms with the fact that postpartum recovery took nearly two years.

4. Allow time and space for creativity to unfold at least once a week.

5. See more live music.

6. Stay proactive and positive with chronic migraine care.

7. Publish at least one article outside of Milwaukee.

8. Get to know my mom better, learn about her past.

9. Be present more often.

10. Let’s end on a high note - a reflection from 2019, which was our busiest and most successful year yet. Ramsey and I celebrated our 5th anniversary in Turks & Caicos, which is the closest to paradise I’ve ever seen. After it almost didn’t happen due to an expired passport, it was a very well-earned vacation. On our first anniversary, I was pregnant. Our second anniversary was all about baby’s first Christmas. On our third anniversary, I was pregnant again and on our fourth – totally exhausted. We figured this was the year to get away, reconnect and recharge. And we were absolutely right. Now if I could just find a way to keep that island vibe in 2020…one last goal.
