Winter at the Lake

I drink mug after mug of coffee to combat the cold and battle exhaustion due to grey skies and stagnation. But then I get so jittery from being stuck inside (and yes, the caffeine), I feel like I want to crawl out of my dehydrated skin. I’ve embraced winter as much as I can, but at this point, I’m ready to escape.

I forced myself out for a brisk run/walk on a windy, snowy day to burn off some unwanted anxiety and take a peek at my favorite spot. One of the most important skills as a writer that I’ve been trying to hone is my sense of observation. So, I’ve been visiting some of the same spots during all four season to see if I can discern how many elements have changed. Lake Michigan is a natural draw because of the way water makes me feel. My moods often mimic the fluidity of the water and something about seeing the waves peak and retreat is so relaxing to me.

Here is a photo of the winter edition of Lake Michigan at Big Bay park. The water was aggressively churning and the frozen mountains of snow looked like they might transform into Yetis at any moment, making the whole scene feel a bit eerie. I will continue to update this post with pics for spring, summer and fall. Maybe you’ll see what I see, or you will interpret the changing landscape in your own way.
