4 Signs of Spring in MKE

Spring is a funny, elusive little animal here in Milwaukee. Sometimes it doesn’t show up until nearly May, but there are always a few surefire signs that it will appear, even if it takes a while.

No matter the weather, these events and activities always remind us that sunny days are ahead.

  1. Milwaukee Art Museum - Art in Bloom April 11-14 – Impressive and impossibly creative floral displays and sculpture set against three floors of the Milwaukee Art Museum’s gorgeous permanent collection of art. There are extra events all weekend like a fashion show and market with local artisans and crafters. This event is also family friendly!

  2. Gallery Night in the Third Ward - April 23 - This event happens quarterly in the Third Ward, East Side and Walker’s Point, but the Third Ward has the highest concentration of galleries and shops participating. Check out art on display, socialize and enjoy snacks and sips all over the neighborhood.

  3. Take a hike to spot budding leaves and flowers at the Urban Ecology Center - There is programming throughout the month of April from kid’s activities to an Earth Day cleanup, but it’s always free to just hike and explore any day of the week. There are three branches in the city, so no matter where you live, there is an Urban Ecology Center near year. Visit all of them, because they all have different things to offer and because being outside the best.

  4. Miller Park tailgating (and a Milwaukee Brewers game) – Part of the thrill of going to a baseball game in Milwaukee are the shenanigans that happen in the parking lot during tailgating prior to the game. Fire up your grill, bring your games and plenty of cold beer to pre-game with your own crew. The best part, Miller Park offers local craft beer and gourmet food options so no need to settle for a hot dog and peanuts anymore.

No coincidence, these are all included in my book “100 Things to Do in Milwaukee Before You Die.” More information here.
